While driving to work I saw a Malibu mid 2000's with an SS badge on the back. Did GM ever produce one?

Yup. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet…
Oddly enough I've only seen Malibu Maxx SS'. Never a sedan.

'05 was the first year with the SS, could get the wagon (Maxx) with the SS option too. Very unicorn.

The Grand Prix GXP, you'know the one with the LS4 engine in it, even that had the 4 speed auto. I'm fairly sure GM was scared to death by manual transmissions in the early to mid 2000's.
*Note: After looking into it every single preformance W body of the 2000's was not able to get a manual in it. Kinda ridiculous.

4T65-E isn't a bad trans.

Ahh yes, the 300hp FWD V8. Because everyone loves it when Torque & under steer come together.

Not for 1990 when it came out. But in 2006 (holy damn, they kept it around until 2011) its a different story.

Certainly out of date but the ones I owned seemed to operate well with good durability. If you really want to fall over there's a trans platform that ended production last year after basically a 50 year run with the same ratios (with a slight exception). Can you guess?
